Seminar synopsis:

Facades are a fundamental week point in thermal terms, and thorough consideration of their design is required to achieve a proper balance between energy conservation and good indoor environment especially in the tropics. This presentation deals with simulation models for evaluating thermal performance of various facade systems in terms of both thermal loads and thermal environment near the window. The precision of these models was verified by comparing calculated and measured results. Studies are conducted using tropical climate data for Singapore as well as climate data for Tokyo. In addition, evaluation of light environment is introduced in this presentation. The characteristics and challenges of facades in Singapore are also discussed.
