    Sustainability at BEX Asia

  • content

At Reed Exhibitions we understand that our business processes can have positive and negative social, environmental and economic impact. Our purpose is to provide event management that wherever practicable minimizes the negative and maximizes the positive longer term impacts. We are committed to the following governing principles: Leadership, Stewardship, Integrity and Inclusivity.

As part of Reed Exhibitions’ Sustainability Policy, we actively champion sustainability throughout our planning and execution of BEX Asia and its co-located events. We also believe that every effort counts and continually engage our industry stakeholders, exhibitors and visitors to think and act green together.

To find out more sustainable initiatives in the MICE industry, please refer to the MICE 3R toolkit, an initiative of the MICE 3R taskforce comprising the National Environment Agency (NEA), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and members of the Singapore Association of Conference and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS). We consumed 0.68kWh/m2 of electricity in 2017, a reduction from 1.03kWh/m2 in 2016 and had a total carbon footprint of 22 tonnes, CO2-equivalent basis as compared to 2016 (125 tonnes, CO2-equivalent basis).

    • In-hall lighting was set at 50% to 75% during pre-set up and the exhibitions.
    • Energy saving, LED tube lights were used for all eco-booths.
    • In-hall air-conditioning was set at a more energy-efficient 25ºC.

    • Our booth aisles are not carpeted and we used recycled carpets in our lounges.
    • We print limited event materials and use eco-materials, whenever possible.
    • Green and digital: Visitors and exhibitors used our mobile apps to retrieve event information on the go, and to exchange e-contacts instead of printed business cards.
    • Less plastic: Water dispensers were provided instead of bottled water. Reusable utensils and plates were used. Event name badges did not come in plastic holders and lanyards were recycled.
    • Recycled chairs and green walls were used in the seminar areas.

    • “Go Green, Dress Lean”: Visitors and exhibitors went without coats and ties so that room temperatures can be set at a sustainable level.
    • Visitors were encouraged to take public transport to and from the venue.
    • “Green Space Award”:
Celebrates and recognizes exhibitors’ efforts in incorporating sustainability into their booth design and construction.

BEX Asia and its co-located events were held at Marina Bay Sands, an eco-venue situated in central Singapore and accessible by various modes of transportation.

We work with like-minded green partners and vendors with a strong commitment to sustainability, notably Marina Bay Sands (Official Green Venue and Hotel Partner), Cityneon (Official Contractor) and Agility (Official Logistics Provider).

    Sustainable Tips for Exhibitors

    • Design your stand to be reusable. This will reduce costs when you next exhibit! Stand a chance to win “Green Space Awards”. Click to find out more!
    • Use booth adornments which can be stored and reused.
    • Use our e-scanners to collect visitors’ details instead of collecting printed business cards.
    • Consider e-marketing for your promotional materials.
    • If you are printing materials, will they be made from recycled or sustainable sources?
    • If you have any give-aways, consider if they are useful or can be recycled.
    • Encourage staff and team members to use public transport, when travelling to and from the venue.
    • Consider whether you really need to make event t-shirts for your team. If you do - think about getting them from a company that use sustainable cotton and dyes and keep these for future events.

    Sustainable Tips For Visitors

    • Think about your travel choices: Is public transport available?
    • Request for electronic copies of exhibitors’ e-brochures.
    • Bring along your own bag or use our recyclable event bag distributed on-site.
    • Bring your own tumblers since water dispensers are readily accessible onsite.
    • Use the recycling facilities provided onsite.
    • Re-use your cutlery as far as possible.
    • Reuse or recycle any marketing collaterals received at the event.
    • Monitor and measure your company’s impact i.e. energy usage, waste etc.
